Preliminary task

Our preliminary task was to design a school magazine cover and contents page, based on our own school magazine, the Heathsonian. Like our official school magazine front cover, i promised articles that i thought would pull in students of all ages. Unlike the Heathsonian, i used a picture of the school as my background image. I used this because the photo is of the centre of the school, a place that all students could relate to, unlike just the art block for example, which not all students take as a option. I used three smaller pictures, two of students and one of the sixth form block, to represent the school as a community. By using photoshop, i adjusted the quality of the photos by adding different effects. My final outcome was completely different to my draft, as I formed better ideas with photoshop. My initial idea was to have a basic patterned background, but then realised I could write over a photo once I had grasped how to use photoshop. The masthead of the school magazine, "Heathsonian," relates to the name of the school, Little Heath. The slogan "a new year begins..." relates to the start of a new school year. If i did it again, I would try to get photos of students working, playing sports or instruments and teachers to make the magazine feel like it involves an entire community.
